A Visit to Old Salt, near Chester, Nova Scotia

I arrived at Old Salt on the South Shore of Nova Scotia on Friday, September 3, after driving for 22 hours straight - I beat Hurricane Earl by about two hours. The slide show starts the next morning when the wind was blowing with enough strength to knock my legs out from under me. Eventually, other rug hookers arrived and we spent a week exploring the area. We were beachcombers in Blandford, shoppers in Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, and visitors to the soon-to-be Hooked Rug Museum of North America in Queensland, next to Hubbards.

I saved photos of hooked rugs to be posted in another slide show sometime soon.

Old Salt really is a special place, and the people make it even more special. I'm so glad I met you and can now put a personality on Miz T. Thanks for sharing your amazing rug - I'm planning to post some of the photos of it.

Right now, the museum is being leased to a tv company, the one producing "Haven" - a cable tv show I've never seen. The building will be converted into the museum as the funds make it possible. Next year, the shop that Suzanne Conrod has operated for years, selling rugs to support the museum, will be moved into the new building - and, maybe there will be a grand opening.

Thank you for those pictures. Makes me want to go even more, especially when I see that you had on something that looked like a jacket. (I don't think it will ever be cool enough for me to wear a jacket). You certainly captured the beauty of that part of the country. Some of those pictures would make a great rug.
